August & September Practice Days

The Turquoise Trail Wranglers have been busy practicing during our August and September club meetings for our 2nd Annual Chad Winters Memorial 4-H Ranch Rodeo scheduled for Sunday October 10th at 10:00 AM right here at the Chad Winters Memorial 4-H Arena . Their hard work is paying off as you can see in the photos. Thanks once again to NM Ranch Horse Versatility Champion Ms. Diane Clare who organized and led us in events like cattle sorting and penning, roping, branding, maneuvering your horse through trail obstacles and crossing a bridge, trailer loading and unloading, hanging a rain slicker while horseback and flag relay are several of the events that the Wranglers and several other Santa Fe County 4-H'ers will be doing as a team. An added bonus this year will be a delicious chuckwagon meal served up by our good friend Mr. Carl Hawkins of Hawkins Chuckwagon fame. We have one more practice and fun day scheduled for 10 AM Sunday September 19th. So saddle up and we will see you there.

Roping Clinic

For the second year in a row our Wranglers got to rope with the best! Our thanks go out to Mr. Clint Mortenson along with Mr. Henry McKinley, Mr. Wayne Winters, Mr. Mark Hermeling and Mr. Grant Mitchell who spent the day sharpening our roping skills. Beginning the day with "ground school" and roping the 'dummies" and moving up to roping horseback with the skid steer and the Heel-O-Matic the Wranglers were set for our August and September practice sessions for our 4-H Kids Ranch Rodeo scheduled for October 10th 2010.

We would like to extend our gratitude and appreciation to our top notch instructors: John Vigil, Steve Tanuz and Billy Jackson who not only instructed but worked side by side with the never tiring Mr. Wayne Winters prior to this clinic welding and putting the finishing touches on the bucking chutes and gates. Also many thanks to Cisco - you rock!

A special thanks to EMT Mr. Marco Gonzalez and US Army Special Forces Medic Neal Reilly (on loan from the Horses for Heroes, NM Cowboy UP! Program) for providing excellent medical coverage for this event.
We would also like to thank Ms. Nancy De Santis, Cris Iannucci and Mr. Kenny Tomlinson for work on the chute gates and for his great work bullfighting! Mr. Carl Hawkins and Hawkins Chuckwagon always a welcome addition to our events, Mr. Richard Beal and the Trevizo family for remembering how hot it was with a cooler full of cold drinks for our kids.
